AC Techniques Electrochemical TestingElectrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) has been successfully applied to metals and metals coated with organic or metallic coatings. Major strengths of EIS include: (1) the technique is nondestructive, (2) it compensates for ohmic potential drop in high resistance solutions, (3) it is a sensitive measure of coating degradation, and (4) EIS data provide a mechanistic understanding of the corrosion process by permitting the measurement of the individual electrical analog components that comprise a metal or coated metal interface.

CC Technologies' staff has extensive experience evaluating metals and coatings utilizing EIS, including:
Coating Performance
Corrosion Rate Estimates in High Resistivity Solutions
Harmonic Impedance Spectroscopy
Corrosion Rate for Cathodically Protected Steel in Soils
Corrosion of Steel in Concrete
Liquid Metal Embrittlement of Aluminum Alloys by Mercury
Pore Resistance for Artificially Induced Pits
Deterioration of Galvanized Steel Surfaces

The equipment available at CC Technologies for EIS studies includes a Solartron Model 1250 Frequency Response Analyzer (used in conjunction with either a PAR 273 Potentiostat or a Solartron Model 1286 Electrochemical interface) and a microcomputer for data analysis, plotting, and analog circuit modeling.

Some of the services offered include:
EIS Testing
Practical and Fundamental Research Programs involving EIS Techniques
Courses taught on Practical Applications of EIS Techniques

Other AC electrochemical studies include the simulation of dynamic stray currents on underground structures and the subsequent analysis and interpretation of high frequency potential responses measured on these structures.

We look forward to helping you with your corrosion problems and providing you with practical engineering solutions.
