CC Technologies and the Northeast Gas Association
(NGA) have established the industry benchmark for validating
External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA). The results quantify
the validity of ECDA as an integrity verification tool with
respect to external corrosion. The ability of ECDA to detect
pipeline coating flaws and corrosion damage was statistically
verified by performing ECDA on approximately 20 miles of pipe
and conducting 66 excavations. ECDA validation projects are
currently being performed by other groups and are expected
to provide additional confidence in this approach. CC Technologies
and NGA are presently developing ECDA approaches for special
applications such as cased crossings, uncased crossings (e.g.,
directionally drilled pipe), and bare (uncoated) pipelines.
Implementation of internal corrosion direct assessment (ICDA)
will also be included.

CC Technologies is the leading direct assessment
(DA) technology provider in the pipeline industry. CC Technologies
maintains unique experience and expertise for the implementation
of DA technology as it applies to integrity management. CC
Technologies staff have been leaders in the development of
ECDA, ICDA, and stress corrosion cracking DA (SCCDA) technologies
for the pipeline industry including NACE standards development.
