Dr.
Garfias is the Director of Testing for CC Technologies, Inc.,
an international engineering and, research firm specializing
in corrosion, materials, and integrity evaluation, which
is located in Dublin, Ohio. Luis has work in several areas
of Materials Science (Research and Engineering) including
Localized Corrosion of Stainless Steels, Degradation in Biomedical
Materials and Implants, Corrosion and Reliability of Electronic
Materials and Devices, Environmental Degradation of Materials,
Corrosion on Processing Equipment in Industrial Environments
and Pilot Plants and Corrosion on Aerosol Containers.
In June 2003, Luis received the “Central
Bell Labs Teamwork Award for being the Chairman of the Lucent
Task Force on Corrosion.” In October 2004, Luis received
the “2004 Most Promising Engineer with Advanced Degree,” award
from HENAAC (A Hispanic organization that recognizes bright
Hispanic engineers across USA). In January 29, 2007, Luis
received an Officer’s Award at S. C. Johnson for his
groundbreaking work on several projects that enable the launch
of multimillion-dollar products, which were critical to S.
C. Johnson.
Luis is an active member of the Electrochemical Society
(ECS) Corrosion Division, the National Association of Corrosion
Engineers (NACE), and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
In the summer of 2004, Luis was an invited speaker at the
Gordon Research Conference on Corrosion. Luis also has served
as Chairman of different symposiums in both NACE and the
ECS; furthermore, he serves as an active referee for most
of the Corrosion Journals.
